World Class Curriculum
Since the beginning of the s/y Next Wave’s service in YWAM, she has been dedicated to training up the “next wave” of missionaries. That is still the case today. In partnership with the Youth With A Mission Maritime Academy, we are now offering more maritime training programs, all of which are creditable to your UofN Science and Technology degree. The training offered through YWAM Next Wave, combined with the UofN required core courses, gives you the opportunity to graduate the UofN with an Associate’s of Science in Maritime Studies. Along with your UofN degree, you will have earned a number internationally recognized certificates to serve on vessels and yachts world-wide.
STCW Basic Training
This training is a legal requirement to serve on vessels world wide and is intended to ensure that seafarers are aware of the hazards of working on a vessel and can respond appropriately in an emergency. The course includes: basic fire fighting, elementary first aid, personal survival techniques, and personal safety and social responsibility.
Divemaster Discipleship Training School (DTS)
This DTS is one-of-a-kind, as it is geared to equip you with the skills, experience, and knowledge to serve on-board any of the YWAM ships internationally, while sailing through the islands of the Aegean Sea.
Seamanship and Marine Safety
Seamanship and Marine Safety provides you with the basic knowledge and practical experience for becoming a quality deckhand on-board any ship, and is a step towards becoming a certified Able Seafarer. The course includes: vessel familiarization, basic sailing theory, safety, deck work, practical sea-going service, and more.
Marine Navigation Foundations
The Marine Navigation Foundations Course pairs the Royal Yachting Association’s curriculum with further discipleship through the UofN, for those who desire to progress to a ships officer. The course focuses on chart work, tidal theory, meteorology, and passage planning.
Marine Engineering Foundations
The Marine Engineering Foundations Course pairs the Maritime Coastguard Agency engineering curriculum further discipleship through the UofN, for those who desire to progress to a ship’s Chief Engineer. PADI Open Water Diver
The PADI Open Water Diver course takes anyone from no experience in diving, to competent in the art. This course covers theory, controlled dives, and open water dives.
Outreach // Practicum
The practicum is a time where you can accrue much needed sea-time for further certifications, as well as to serve the local ministry and gain as much experience as you can.
We are working on developing more training programs with the Maritime Academy and will be releasing more courses to continue your journey to becoming a maritime missionary!
All listed maritime training courses are a part of the University of the Nations: College of Science and Technology's Maritime Academy.

The Next step
The journey of discipleship and maritime training, with YWAM, starts with the Discipleship Training School (DTS) to better discover God's call and meaning on your life, but DTS is just the beginning. It opens the door to further training and ministry. The opportunities, both in YWAM and beyond, are endless! Next Wave is a vessel dedicated to training and releasing the Next Wave of missionaries, which includes you! Once you have completed your DTS, prayerfully consider returning to further your skills in maritime studies through any of the above courses or joining Crew. You will be amazed at where God can take you, and we’d love to help you get there!
